The Puri Beach Marathon is an annual marathon event organized along the scenic beaches of Puri, Odisha. It’s hosted by the Bhubaneswar Cycling & Adventure Club (BCAC) to promote fitness, tourism, and community engagement.
The marathon takes place on the sandy shores of Puri Beach near Sterling Resorts. The common accessible route is via the IDCO Road near proposed Puri Airport from Girala Chowk on the way to Satapada.
2nd Sunday of December every year has been earmarked for Puri Beach Marathon by BCAC. For 2024, this will be on 8th December, 2024.
The event is open to all runners, regardless of skill level or age. Categories and distances accommodate beginners, seasoned runners, and everyone in between. For safety of the runners, we allow runners above 15 years (as on the date of the Marathon) to participate in this race.

Yes, registration typically closes a few weeks before the event. Early registration is recommended as spots may fill up quickly.

Unregistering from the event is not encouraged. However, if you can’t participate in the event for any unavoidable reason, the registration fee will not be refunded. You may intimate the organisers (BCAC) before intimating your non-participation.
The event offers multiple categories based on distance and age:
Yes, participants under 18 years require parental consent. The Half Marathon and Fun-Run events have minimum age requirements. Please refer to the BCAC guidelines.
The marathon route will span along the sandy stretches of Puri Beach from Samuka Beach (on the opposite side of Sterling Resorts) towards Baliharachandi Beach and back, with markers and water stations along the way. A detailed course map will be provided upon registration.
Yes, each category has a time limit:
Yes, the course is clearly marked with signs and volunteers stationed at key points and U-Turn Points. This course is directly on the beach of Puri, hence there is little chance of any diversion.
Yes, all finishers will receive a commemorative medal. Top finishers in each category will also receive trophies and cash prizes.
Race start times vary by category. Typically, Half Marathon starts at 7:00AM and the 7Km Fun-Run Event starts at 7:30AM. Participants are advised to arrive an hour before their start time for registration check-in.
Bibs and race kits can be picked up at the designated BCAC check-in tent at Puri Beach on race day.
Yes, a baggage drop area will be available at the start/finish point. BCAC is not responsible for any loss or damage, so keep valuables at home. Please mark your bags and belongings with the Name Tags provided by BCAC.
Yes, water and refreshment stations are set up at intervals along the course and at the finish line.
Yes, medical personnel and ambulances will be stationed at the Start/ Finish Point of the race. Basic First-Aid kits will also be available at the Hydration Stations. However, your personal safety is your own responsibility. Please stay away from the Marathon, if you are advised by your personal physician or a doctor.
The event follows strict safety protocols, with medical support, route marshals, and hydration stations at every 3.5Kms. Emergency contact information is provided to all participants.
Running on sand can be more physically demanding. BCAC advises runners to wear appropriate footwear and take it slow if they’re not accustomed to running on sand.

BCAC does not provide direct transportation, but local public transport options are available. A clear route guide map is displayed on the website for convenience of the participants. Participants are encouraged to arrange transportation well in advance.
